Moving water encourages cats and reluctant drinkers to take in far more than they would from a standing bowl, which matters more than most owners realise for urinary health. This one is glazed stoneware rather than plastic, so it does not scratch, does not hold biofilm in the scratches, and does not develop the smell plastic fountains get by week three. The pump is submersible and rated at under 30dB, quiet enough for a bedroom. Water passes through a dual carbon and foam filter that lifts out without tools. A low-water sensor cuts the pump before it runs dry. Dishwasher safe apart from the pump. Replacement filters are a standard size.

Care: strip and wash the fountain weekly and replace the filter monthly – a fountain left longer than that is dirtier than a bowl. Stoneware is dishwasher safe; the pump is not. Descale with a 1:4 white vinegar soak if you are in a hard-water area. Run the pump only when submerged, as running dry will burn out the impeller.
